A member of the Far West Joint Organisation, Broken Hill City Council is the local government authority for the Broken Hill region. Nicknamed the Silver City, it lies in the centre of the sparsely settled New South Wales Outback, close to the South Australian border and midway between the Queensland and Victorian border.
Where the past meets the future
Broken Hill is recognised as Australia’s first heritage listed city. Boasting a rich mining history, the City continues to have a focus on new mining opportunities as well as attracting investment from the renewable energies sectors including solar and wind farms.
Being an integral part of New South Wales’ Outback tourism region, tourism is seen as a major economic driver with visitors attracted to the history, vibrant artistic community and natural beauty of the Outback.
